Monday Morning Motivation (on Thursday): The Present of Being Present

This week I'm sending out this coming Monday's email early because I know everyone is about to be fully immersed in all things Christmas (if they're not already)....

It's here again. The most beautiful and stressful time of year. For most, self-development is the last thing on their minds. Instead they're rushing around cooking, last-minute shopping, wrapping, cleaning....in a frenzied state of preparation. Then comes the eating. Oooooh the eating. And then comes the misery and fatigue. Merry Christmas! Ugh.

Here's the thing, we don't have to stress ourselves out and eat ourselves stupid to fully experience the holiday.

I challenge you to try something different this year. I challenge you to try being so completely present every moment that you don't miss a thing. Even when you're wrapping and cleaning, do it with intention and purpose. When you're shopping, instead of loathing the crowd of last minute shoppers that are constantly in your way, make it a challenge to try to make eye contact with as many as you can. Smile warmly, wish them a Merry Christmas.

When you sit down with your family to celebrate, take in every face, every laugh, acknowledging that any one of them may not be with you next year. Absorb every little thing about the moment. When you eat, don't mindless stuff your face. Instead, pick only foods you love, chew slowly, enjoy every bite with no guilt, only pleasure and complete awareness. (I promise you'll just naturally eat less this way but enjoy your food WAY more!)

In a few short days from now the frenzy of the holidays will be behind us and a new year will be here. Embrace every little precious moment of this holiday. This is your life. This moment. Right now.

Merry Christmas!
